Product Care
Clay & glaze
Each piece has been made with a stoneware clay body and high fired for full vitrification meaning the piece is non-porous and fully matured. Glazes are carefully developed and tested thoroughly for functional ware and the pieces are put through their paces in my own home rather than a lab facility due to the non commercial and small batch scale of production. Satin or matte glazes like a good pair of jeans pieces may reveal minor signs of ageing like staining or cutlery marking overtime.
Sculptural pieces may be uncoated or glazed in non functional glazes which will be stated in the product description.
Care Instructions
Ceramics pieces will last you a lifetime if looked after carefully. They have endured the rigorous kiln temperatures of up to 1300 degrees and are therefore oven safe, and are generally microwave safe (sorry I don’t have a microwave and haven’t tested it).
Pieces are dishwasher safe, but I always recommend a gentle hand wash in hot soapy water. I understand this isn’t always convenient, however the harsh nature of detergents and dishwashing cycles may have an impact on the lifespan of your pots (it will most likely still out live you!).
The nature of clay makes it prey to what’s known as “thermal shock”. Taking clay items from one extreme temperature to another may cause damage to your pots. If used in an oven always allow pots to cool to room temperature before cleaning. Ceramics pieces should not be used over an open flame unless stated as “flame proof”.
